Jail Visitation:
Visitation is conducted seven days a week and twice daily from 9am-11am and 7pm-9pm. Each visit is 20 minutes in length and is conducted over a video system. Visitors must have a valid photo ID and are required to sign in. Visitors with small children must maintain control over the children or you will be asked to leave. Visitors are not allowed to use or display your cell phone during the visit. Any conduct which is disruptive or inappropriate will result in the visit being terminated and the visitor asked to leave.
Inmates are allowed 1 visit per day. No contact visits are allowed and the staff will not pass notes or any other items between visitor and inmate.
Phones:
The Yankton County Jail utilizes the Reliance Phone System for inmate communications. If you wish to purchase a phone card for an inmate, this can be done on-line at www.reliancetelephone.com
Messages for inmates can be left at (605)665-0440 and follow the instructions given. Staff will not relay messages to inmates.
Inmate Commissary:
A commissary is available to all inmates who have money in their jail account. Money can be deposited for the inmate at the Kiosk located in the jail lobby or by mailing a money order to the jail.
Mail:
Inmates may receive books mailed directly to them from the publisher or retail outlet only. Inmates are not allowed any type of magazines or newspapers from any source. All incoming and outgoing mail is screened for content; anything found to inappropriate will be returned to sender or placed in the inmate's property.
Work Release:
A $200.00 deposit and completed set of work release papers is required prior to the 1st day of work. Inmates are not allowed to work on Sunday and Holidays. Inmates may hold only one job while incarcerated. Inmates are not allowed to work out of Yankton County or out of state without prior approval. The jail does not have the facility for the laundering of inmate work clothing. The Sheriff of Yankton County has the final say if you are allowed into the work release program.
